The Student Financial Aid Game
College Financial Aid
This site is not for everyone!
If your family has low income, or you can get a full scholarship, you won't benefit very much from this education grant and scholarship information.

For middle-to-upper-income families of college-bound
high school kids, or students already in college.

  • Most free money comes from grants, not scholarships.
  • Most people qualify, you don't have to have low income.
  • A partial scholarship may reduce your grant money.
  • Money is limited and is on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • Many people don't file the FAFSA correctly & timely.
  • Before filing, how you position income & assets is crucial.
  • Applying to the right colleges can mean more free money.
  • Knowing which colleges have more money is important.
  • Knowing how to negotiate with a college may be critical.
  • The financial aid officer will not help you with most of this.
  • We can help your family with all of this!

  •   Knowing how to legally implement and use the above facts to your advantage can mean you avoid costly mistakes and pay $ thousands less for college!Graduate Cap
    Some colleges have a financial aid reply deadline of May 1st:  Days Til' Deadline
    College is the 2nd biggest purchase of your life! It is by far worth taking a little time to learn how to get more financial aid so you don't pay so much and get hopelessly in debt!

    Middle and upper income families can get free college grant money, but without College Financial Aid Planning they will get thousands less, or maybe even none! Similar in concept to how a good CPA can help a business, or a person legally pay less in taxes, College Financial Aid Planning can legally lower what you have to pay for school primarily through helping you:
    1. Increase eligibility for college grant money by lowering your EFC;
    2. Pick schools that afford the best shot of getting more college grant money;
    3. Negotiate with colleges to get the best possible student financial aid package;
    4. Show you how to fill out the two major college financial aid forms so they go in accurately and on time.
    This involves knowledge of the rules of the Higher Education Act of Congress, and of how colleges intentionally play the student education financial aid game. Unless a student of a middle to upper income family is extremely gifted, the university won't play the game to his or her advantage--that is unless the family is armed with right knowledge and power to tilt the game in their favor!
    The key to knowledge is in this box...

    Regarding Scholarships
    A full scholarship is the best, if you can get it. A small, partial "outside" scholarship may not help you as much as you think. The college may reduce dollar for dollar the amount of free grant money you were going to get; but many times you can have it reduce loans or work study. Because of this, unless you can't lower your EFC enough; we recommend spending more of your time and efforts on getting more free grant money, and campus based scholarships, which you have a higher chance of getting; as opposed to outside scholarships, in which you have a lower chance of getting anything worthwhile. Having said that, if there is time, there are still good reasons to compete for scholarships. However, as with financial aid, you don't want to shoot in the dark; it is important to have the inside scoop and know how to go about it so you greatly increase your odds of getting a scholarship. That is why we also offer consulting on competing for scholarships.
